In 1936 he went into radio and in 1939 was hired as the host of Radio-Canada&#8217;s &#8220;Un homme et son p\u00e9ch\u00e9.&#8221; That same year, Mauffette discovered a young Quebec singer and poet named Felix Leclerc, whom he hired and encouraged to sing on radio for the first time. Becoming known to his listeners as &#8220;l&#8217;Oiseau de nuit,&#8221; or the Night Bird, Mauffette is best remembered as host of Radio-Canada&#8217;s &#8220;Le cabaret du soir qui penche&#8221; which aired every Sunday evening from 1960 until 1973. In addition to radio he also appeared on television, most notably as Monsieur Surprise on &#8220;La bo\u00eete \u00e0 surprise&#8221; from 1961 until 1965, and in film, in movies such as &#8220;Le P\u00e8re Chopin&#8221; (1945), &#8220;Le Cur\u00e9 de village&#8221; (1949), and &#8220;Les lumi\u00e8res de ma ville&#8221; (1950) He was appointed a member of the Order of Canada in 1972 and a Grand Officier of l&#8217;Ordre national de Quebec in 1996.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Director: Raymond St-Jean<br \/>\nProducer: Pierre L.
