While seeking harmony, order and perfection in every aspect of their lives, they built\u00a0minimalistic\u00a0furniture and buildings that influenced modern design. \u00a0The Shakers wrote\u00a0songs of exquisite beauty and danced to ecstasy during their religious meetings. Inspired by this music and dance, Finnish choreographer Tero Saarinen created\u00a0Borrowed Light, a dance piece about communal life and individual sacrifice.
